Not only that: the sense of imminent demise was a major impetus to its initial spread by evangelization. Paul is Exhibit One, probably most often cited for his explicit articulation of urgency in his writings.
It is so much more interesting to read about it from those who either do not believe in it at all or who have significant doubt that is founded upon sound research, with serious regard for real, factual historical information. As to each class, they take it seriously enough to study its contentions respectfully, and many of those contentions fall short under examination. Moreover, too often those who do indeed believe and who write in a gifted way about their belief are not well regarded by those in ecclesiastical authority or are regarded as heretical or other degrees of “error”. But they are far more articulate and gifted in what they say than those who are the authorities, including those who supposedly are “prophets” or similar figures.
