What’s Your Yard Bird of the Day?

WC hadn’t planned a blog post today, but when you get a yard bird like this you have to brag about it.

Wood Duck, Yard Bird of the Month

Wood Duck, Yard Bird of the Month

The drake is perched on the wood bench across the creek in WC’s backyard. As far as spectacularly colored birds go, this fellow may have retired the trophy.

  1. Well, to answer your question, our YBOTD is/are a score of black-throated sparrows. Super-dapper birds, and very special to have them right outside the window on our tiny grass patch.
Regardless, YOURS definitely takes the drake-cake. Neat!

  2. Wow! We have wood ducks as yard birds, but they NEVER let me take photos of them. They fly off with even the slightest movement of me. That is just a brilliant photo. He deserves to be printed on canvas and hung on a wall. 😀

  3. We share our Melbourne, Australia garden with a family of magpies. They make a very caring family group and both humans and birds seem to understand that we need to be good neighbours. We’ve never been swooped, but just look at each other with curiosity.
