Paul Ryan has announced he is retiring. He won’t be standing for re-election.

Another rat deserting the sinking ship of the Trump presidency.

House Speaker Paul Ryan. The number three man in the federal government.

The excuse? He wants to spend more time with his wife and family. That one doesn’t pass the red face test.

The reasons? He doesn’t want to defend President Trump in impeachment proceedings in what looks to be a Democrat-controlled Congress. He doesn’t want to be ousted as House Speaker if the Democrats gain control of the House. He doesn’t want to have to preside over Trump’s impeachment trial in a Republican-controlled House. He finally realized Trump has no interest in the Republican Party platform. He’s tired of kissing a pig.

His legacy? A guy who supported Trump. The guy who enabled Trump. The fiscal hawk who presided over the creation of the greatest budget deficit in the history of the country.

His epitaph? Written in watercolors in a heavy rain storm.

Someone get this man a basin; he wants to wash his hands.
