Oregon Coast Notebook: Coos County

A few bird photos from May 2, 2021. The photos are from two areas just south of Coos Bay: Sunset Bay State Park and South Slough Marine Estuary.

  Rufous Hummingbird

  Rufous Hummingbird; you can see that the angle of the sun to the gorget on the neck is critical.

• 

  Pacific Wren. The greenish cast on the chest of from brightly lit undergrowth.

  WC’s first Hermit Warbler photo. An annoyingly uncooperative bird.

  Chestnut-backed Chickadee

None of these photos are going to win any prizes, but WC promises you that they were immense fun to take. Processing them on WC’s somewhat aged laptop doesn’t do the photos any favors, either. Call them documentation, at least, of what’s still around.
