Smart Enough to Tie His Own Bootlaces Together

Ammon Bundy’s outstanding arrest warrant, Ada County

Scofflaw and supremely selfish thug Ammon Bundy has an outstanding arrest warrant in Ada County, Idaho. It goes back to his failure to appear for a hearing on contempt of court charges in 2022. Rather than face the charges, the miserable excuse for a human being ran away and hid.

Of course, he had other reasons to run away and hide. The St. Luke’s Hospital System has a money judgment against him for $52 million, arising out of Bundy’s last public stunt, in which he falsely accused the St. Luke’s Boise hospital of kidnapping the grandson of one of his supporters. Bundy’s threats locked down St. Luke’s. The hospital system sued Bundy for defamation and interference with its business. Because Bundy is much better at making trouble than accepting responsibility for the consequences of his conduct, the money judgment is probably about ten times more it would have been if Bundy had had the courage to attend the trial and defend himself.

Bundy’s former home in Emmett, Idaho was his most valuable known asset. It turned out Bundy had engaged in fraud, conveying it to one of his followers and leasing it back. Once again, failing to responsibly deal with the consequences of his actions and tactics. The Idaho court unwound Bundy’s fraudulent conveyance and the house has been or will be sold to start the process of paying St. Luke’s judgment.

So Bundy packed up his family and left under cover of darkness for an undisclosed location. But because Ammon Bundy is incapable to exhibiting the self-control of a second grader, he was soon posting videos on YouTube, whining about the unfairness of it all and how the government was out to get him. In February 2024, Bundy posted a YouTube video titled, “Want to know where Ammon Bundy is?” The video doesn’t intentionally reveal where Bundy is, but because the thug isn’t nearly as smart as he thinks he is – smart enough to tie his own bootlaces, but dumb enough to tie the laces together – he inadvertently revealed his whereabouts.

A nice piece of sleuthing by Michael Lee at Bellingcat used a glimpse of a refrigerator calendar and two roadside landmarks to place Bundy in Iron County, Utah, in the southwestern corner of the state.

WC strongly suspects that St. Luke’s has already registered its money judgment in Utah, and that before too much longer Ammon Bundy will have an unpleasant visit from a process server or deputy sheriff, and that any assets in his name will be seized. Part of WC’s former law practice involved collecting judgment against folks who thought they could hide in Alaska. It was very rare that a Lower 48 state would press for extradition on a civil contempt arrest warrant, but it did sometimes happen. It just depended on how annoyed the judiciary was in the state from which the deadbeat had fled.

Couldn’t happen to a more suitable person. Can’t happen soon enough.

(Yes, WC knows that Ammon Bundy affects cowboy boots. It’s a metaphor, people. Sheesh.)
