WC’s favorite family of birds is the Thraupidae, the Tanagers. No New World family of birds is more colorful, more varied or more beautiful. And there’s 382 species spread across 108 genera, enough to challenge a bird photographer for a long time. Here’s a first sampler of Tanager photos taken on WC’s recent Brazil trip.
Note: Thraupidae’s many wonderful virtues do not include cooperation with photographers. Some are canopy dwellers, giving a birder (and a photographer) only glimpses. But all are worth the effort.

WC is only about two-thirds of the way through processing and labelling photos from the Brazil trip. There are more tanagers to come, but this is a decent start.
Stunning. Those are beautiful, WC. I occasionally have Western Tanagers visit in south Lake Cascade and they are always a delight.

Beauty beyond words, WC. The gorgeous Golden-chevroned Tanager photos reflect your respect for both accuracy and the birds’ incredible feathering.
