Aegolious funereus

WC was filling a photo request for a client recently. There’s no reason why WC can’t share some of those images with readers here. These are photos of Boreal Owls, all but one of them from a nest box on property WC and Mrs. WC owned out Chena Hot Springs Road, east of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Boreal Owls are present in the mountains north of Boise, but very uncommon. And they are nocturnal, which in Idaho means it’s really dark when they’re out and about. WC has yet to see them here, although their Western Screech Owl cousins are pretty common.

Pretty much everybody loves owls, except maybe when you are cleaning a nest box in the fall, and for WC Boreal Owls peg the cuteness meter. Which is likely why WC has 1,448 Boreal Owl photos…

P.S. Remember to vote for Hypocrite of the Year!
